Safwa Zafar, MD

Safwa Zafar, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist at NYC Psychiatric Associates, located in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Manhattan, New York.

She received her medical degree from St. George’s University in True Blue, Grenada, and then completed her psychiatric residency at Richmond University Medical Center in Staten Island, New York. Dr. Zafar also earned her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, equipping her with the ability to provide the evidence-based and compassionate care vulnerable patients need and deserve. 

Dr. Zafar has experience working with patients of all ages and their families. She is also a distinguished member of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. 

Dr. Zafar has a special interest in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychiatry and has completed additional education at the New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute. She believes in working with patients collaboratively in order to provide pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment.
